Scibini Tower
DESCRIPTION
The Scibini tower was erected in 1494 at the behest of Antonino Xurtino, lord of the Scibini, Bimmisca and Belludia fiefdoms. Located on a rocky rise, it was rebuilt on an old abandoned military garrison to alert villagers to frequent attacks by Saracen pirates from Malta and North Africa. The ground floor was used as a storehouse for food and weapons while the upper floor was the quarters of the watchman and soldiers. What remains of the tower, also considered the oldest building in the Pachino area, are the scarp basement and the eastern side of the walls of the upper floor. Of the cross-vaulted ceiling, unfortunately, nothing remains.
