DESCRIPTION
The beaches of the Vendicari Oriented Reserve: Eloro
If you love wild beaches surrounded by unspoiled nature then Eloro beach is definitely the one.
It is located in the northern part of the Vendicari Reserve. From theNorth Entrance of the reserve, after leaving your car at the equipped and paid parking lot, you will have to walk a path of about 300 meters, provided with a comfortable footbridge, but you will not be bored because along the way you can observe some of the remains of the Greek city of Eloro, illustrated by captions and detailed reconstructions.
At the end of this short walk you will see an expanse of sandy dunes surrounded by typical Mediterranean scrub vegetation along with, here and there, freshwater marshes where herons, flamingos, black-winged stilts and mallards stop. A beach of rather fine, light golden sand stretches all the way to the coast where you will be greeted by an extraordinary sea with crystal-clear water and a seabed that slopes gently out to sea. Often in this beach, in the period from June to August, sea turtles of the species Caretta-Caretta nest and if you are lucky you can witness the extraordinary spectacle of the hatching of eggs. Eloro beach, with its striking view of the Swabian Tower and the ancient Tonnara, does not have bathing establishments, but simply has a few areas equipped with showers and a small bar.
