CARRATOIS

About 7 kilometers from Portopalo, and not far from the Isle of Currents, along the Mediterranean coast, is the beach of Carratois. The long beach of fine, golden sand can be considered an extension of the shoreline facing the Isle of Currents, and because of the beauty of the expanse of soft, fine sand and the crystal blue sea water it is rightly considered the tropical paradise of the southeastern region of Sicily. This beach lends itself greatly to long walks along the shoreline eastward toward the island of Correnti, or westward to Punto Rio beach. Characterized by a sandy seabed that, sloping very slowly towards the open sea, remains low even and distance from the shoreline and bathed by a sea with crystal-clear and rather warm water, the beach of Carratois represents a very suitable and safe seaside resort for small children. This long beach is, moreover, particularly popular with surfers: the wind that often picks up in the afternoon allows surfers to perform acrobatic dances on the surface of the water. Mostly the beach is free except in the space occupied by the Lido Kalè Beach Club, an elegant bathing establishment that offers all the necessary bathing facilities and also includes a bar and restaurant.
