Calafarina Beach – Cavettone

DESCRIPTION

CAVETTONE – CALAFARINA

Among the beaches of Marzamemi, on the southern side of the village, along the coast road to Portopalo, a real gem is the Cavettone beach. This is a small stretch of sandy shoreline with which the seaward run of the two basaltic rock ridges of the so-called “Cavettone” ends. This is an archaeological site, near the famous Calafarina Cave, where oven and cave tombs from a necropolis dating from the Neolithic to the Early Bronze Age are excavated. The golden sand, the shallow and safe seabed, gently sloping towards the open sea and the presence of an area equipped with beach umbrellas, sunbeds, changing rooms, showers, toilets as well as a bar and lifeguard service, make it an ideal bathing place especially for families with young children. However, because of its rocky seabed in the southern part, which is also rich in various species of fish, this small beach is also suitable for those who love scuba diving and practicing lo snorkeling.
