Almond Museum

“The Museum of the Almond of Avola and typical products of Avola” was created at the initiative of the Consortium for the Protection of the Almond of Avola, which, cooperating with the Municipality of Avola and the Pro Loco, planned a complete re-evaluation of the palmento premises at the Falcone-Borsellino Youth Center. The aim is to create a cultural itinerary that will accompany the discovery of the agricultural and food and wine roots of our territory. It starts with an exhibition field presenting typical fruit plants. Lemons, rows of Nero d’Avola, sugar cane and the trees of Pizzuta, Fascionello and Romana show concretely what are the productions that have made the city of Avola at the forefront of agricultural cultivation and processing.

Then we continue inside the Palmento Hall, which allows visitors to observe environments of wine and oil production in all their splendor. There are also period photos depicting scenes of rural life. Many fellow citizens have donated agricultural tools and various furnishings to furnish to enrich the room with real pieces of our town’s agricultural history.

Part of the hall has been set aside for Cooking demo, a cooking demonstration followed by tasting that will introduce tourists to the delicacies of our gastronomic tradition, such as almond milk and cookies. All of this is intended to create a realistic environment, allowing total immersion in the working life of an Avolese farming family.

The museum is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.,
