Museum of Noble Wine
DESCRIPTION
A journey through the history of Pachino through wine
Among the many treasures of Italy, one of the most precious is the historical and cultural heritage that can be felt in every corner of the country. In the town of Pachino, Sicily, there is a place that tells the history of the area through the production of wine: the Emanuele Nobile Museum of Wine and Winemaking Traditions of Pachino.
The history of the Noble family
In the early 1900s my grandfather Francesco moved from Rosolini, from where he was already in the wine business with his father Emanuele, to Pachino and founded the firm Francesco Nobile vini. In the mid 1940s the firm became Francesco Nobile and daughter in the early 1980s the firm would be called Nobile Emanuele and Mario.
In remembrance of that great wine trade and out of respect for our fathers in the mid-1990s, my heart prompted me to create a wine museum with a collection of more than 150 pieces recognized by the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage as being of exceptional anthropological interest, the collection is also furnished with more than 150 photos from that era testifying to the sacrifices involved in obtaining a good glass of wine and clearly an economic factor that made Pachino famous throughout the world. At the end of the 1800s, the Nobile family moved from Ragusa to the town of Rosolini to work in wine production, acquiring significant expertise in the field. The wine, which had always been stored in wooden barrels, was for the first time decanted into concrete tanks with cast-iron doors.
The museum and the winemaking tradition
The Pachino Museum of Wine and Winemaking Traditions is a place where you can breathe in the history and winemaking traditions of the area. Here it is possible to admire more than 150 tools that tell the story of grape and must processing.
The museum also houses, a series of hand-decorated Sicilian carts, which are an important testimony to the popular culture of Sicily. These carts, with their bright and distinctive colors, were used to transport wine from the countryside to the cities, but today they have become true pieces of art.
Mr. Noble’s hospitality
Mr. Nobile conveys love and passion for the history related to the world of wine, vines, crushing, animals, transportation and whatnot, and warmly welcomes visitors, guiding them through his collection of carts and tools. The museum features Sicilian carts that Mr. Nobile still uses for his wine-pressing festival, an exhibition of period photos, and various work tools that the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage has recognized as being of great ethno-anthropological interest.
